IRS Announces Tax Season Opening for 1040 Filers

Following the passage of the American Taxpayer Relief Act, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) recently announced that it plans to open the 2013 filing season and begin processing individual income tax returns on Jan. 30. This means that the IRS will start accepting tax returns on that date, expecting more than 120 million households to file early.

According to the IRS, the best option for taxpayers is to file electronically. Doing so will allow taxpayers to receive their tax refunds much faster as they can utilize the e-file direct deposit function. More than 80% of taxpayers filed electronically last year.
